Pam Gormley

Executive Director

“I have the best job in the world,” says Pam. “I’m surrounded by 30,000 books and terrific, fun people who love them.” Although new to library service, Pam brings 21 years experience in management and information technology at Readers Digest, which helps the task of directing the multifaceted Skidompha operation.

Despite being a die-hard NY Yankees fan, Pam and her family moved from New York in 1994 and still celebrate their decision. Pam has had the privilege of watching the new Skidompha grow from a dream to become the community’s living room. “The best part of my job is talking about books with people,” says Pam.

Joyce Barry

Adult Circulation

Joyce was born in Connecticut, grew up in New Jersey and then lived most of the rest of her adult life in Connecticut before moving to mid coast Maine in 1994. She worked in clinical hospital laboratories as a medical technologist for about 40 years. Upon her retirement, Joyce began as a volunteer at the library before becoming a staffer in 2008. Joyce’s two married sons live “away” and she has one grandson, and another due in 2010. “Now it’s me and the cat,” she says. She enjoys being a member of the Skidompha team. We enjoy having her, too!

Jen Betts

Youth Services Librarian

Jen’s dream of working in the children’s’ room at Skidompha finally came true in March of 2008, although she had to agree to take on teen programming to get the job.  Since then, she has dedicated herself to teens and has been known to fry up a bug or two, take a bus load of teens to the opening night at the movies in Brunswick, and create controversy in the community with a spray chalk graffiti program all in the name of teen programming. She has created a teen group known as The B.O.O.K.I.E.S. (the Benevolent Order Of Kids Involved in the Enhancement of Skidompha) and worked on improving the Teen Space and experience at Skidompha. Jen is one-half of the dynamic duo in the children’s room affectionately known as “The Jens.”

Jeanne Davis

Development Director

Following careers in pharmacy (BS, Fordham), non-profit fundraising in Washington, DC, inn-keeping (The Flying Cloud in Newcastle) and skating (Midcoast Recreation Center), Jeanne finally decided what she wanted to be when she grew up was to become Skidompha’s Development Director. She skated off the rink in Rockport and into the library in November, 2004 and has been tirelessly raising money ever since. Jeanne (and all of us) thanks her husband Alan for all his pro-bono work on behalf of Skidompha, too.

Anne Holmes

Adult Services Librarian

Anne came home to Maine after a variety of experiences around the country, including farming in Oregon, graduate school in California, and high-school teaching on Long Island. She has a background in history, anthropology and Chinese, and reads mostly non-fiction, along with an occasional vampire book. She chooses the non-fiction and science fiction titles for Skidompha, and is a book indexer when she is not at the library.

Yvonne Lamoreaux

Adult Services Librarian

If variety is the spice of life then Yvonne‘s background is as interesting as many of our best novels. Born in Denver and living in many large cities throughout the U.S., she and her husband retired to rural Jefferson and with their treasured and outspoken Westies, have adapted thoroughly. She’s had a variety of occupations, from cutting hair in Hollywood, to working as an investigator for the Attorney General’s Office in Boston. Since retiring, she took up the hobby of quilting and has won several state awards. Prior to recently joining our staff, Yvonne volunteered at Skidompha for the six years. She thanks the library for making many great friendships.

Barbara Martin

Adult Services Librarian

On her way to teaching high school English, Barbara Martin detoured into the Massachusetts Trial Court and spent the next 29 years employed (not detained) as a Juvenile Probation Officer. After “serving” her time, she and her husband retired to try on some “new hats.” Not lucky enough to be born Mainers, they were wise enough to move here from away, settling in Newcastle with their better half – two spoiled but wonderful dogs. Since then, she has enjoyed being a local reporter and has written a children’s’ book. Because libraries always ranked up there with ice cream and puppies on her “cannot resist list,” she has happily joined our staff and is able indulge her passion for books while participating in Skidompha’s mission of serving our community.

Jenny Mayher

Youth Services Librarian

Jenny never imagined herself as a Children’s Librarian, mostly because she was not sure she could stay quiet long enough. But since she started at Skidompha in 2006 she has found that she loves the job, especially talking about books with readers of all ages all day long. Jenny lives in Bremen with her husband, two children (10 and 7), and various animals in an old farmhouse that is rarely quiet.

Denise Rankin

Adult Services Librarian

Convinced that Damariscotta is the center of the universe, Denise came to Maine after a career as a writer in Maryland and Massachusetts. She is passionate about mysteries, literary fiction, and art books, and chooses mysteries, audiobooks, and films for the library. She is also a prolific painter and a maker of Shaker oval boxes and trays. Denise was educated at Rice University in Houston and Arizona State in Tempe, AZ. She and her partner Joe are forever working on their beautiful old house in Newcastle.

Leslie Wicks

Children’s Librarian

“After working on the Damariscotta Lake for seven summers, Leslie has finally ended up in Maine as a full time resident. She is a new addition to the children’s room and offers her skills as an artist to whatever fun projects and displays are happening. She is known to occasionally miss her last home, Boston, but is constantly reminded by her beautiful commute that Maine is certainly the way life should be.”

Rachel Zoller

Adult Services Librarian

Rachel has been working in the adult section of the library since October, 2007 after 40 years of teaching elementary school. Her responsibilities include statistics and the Large Print ordering. She has created a program called “Traveling Books” through which books, tapes and videos are delivered through Meals on Wheels. Her goal is to expand this program to other shut-ins. Rachel lives in Newcastle with her husband Jay. They enjoy being docents at the Farnsworth Museum, traveling, visiting their seven grandchildren, gardening and especially reading. And Rachel loves chatting with people at the front desk about their reading!
